10/24/2011 - November Featured Bar of the Month- Ocala Wine Experience

The Ocala Wine Experience

People say there's nothing to do around here, but when OcalaNightOut decided to venture down town on a Friday evening we found a unique and intimate place for a nice glass of wine and a bite to eat right here in Ocala?

The Ocala Wine Experience located in down town Ocala at 36 Southwest 1st Avenue was just what we were looking for, a place where you could talk without having to shout over loud music, and a place to sit and relax without being pushed as people tried to pass. When you first enter the establishment you find yourself surrounded by an international collection of fine wines unlike any other in the area.

The owner Julie Atkinson handpicked them all including her own label The Horses Ass. The Wine Experience retail store also offers a vast array of gourmet fare, eclectic gifts and keepsakes for all seasons. Just ask and a beautiful one of a kind basket can be made up for any occasion. The bistro located on the 2nd floor is just the place to meet with friends, relax chat, drink some wine and generally feel at home.

If you're wearing your jeans or your Sunday best The Ocala Wine experience is a great place to hang out. Julie's personality is definitely all over this venue. The warm rich lighting, the one of its kind handmade bar made out of wine corks, the interesting throws used as table coverings and her art work make you feel like you are visiting a friends 'front room' or at a local English country pub. The Friday evening that we visited there was live music by musician Brian and the patrons sang along to the familiar tunes. Some even accompanied Brian with the percussion instruments supplied by the Wine Experience. There was a great selection of wines and wine tastings are available on request. If you like a light fruity drink that packs a punch OcalaNightOut.com recommends the Mango Singria (a playful twist to a traditional sangria). The light food was scrumptious; there were a selection of gourmet pizzas, cheeses and even chocolate fondue with lots of items for dipping.

It is a great adult atmosphere with music on Friday and Saturday night and Julie and her staff make you feel right at home.
So if you are looking for a place to go.............check out
